In this article, based on comparative and semantic analysis, an attempt is made to consider samples of the philosophical lyrics by Sergei Yesenin, contributing to the disclosure of the manifestation diversity problems of the Russian national character and understanding of national life during the confrontational revolutionary coup of 1917 and through the subsequent Civil War. Espousing the philosophy of the Russian spirit and its sacredness, the poet characterizes the national Russian character as a structure formed by Orthodoxy and implying both spirituality and spontaneity, rooted in the mythological history of the ancient Slavic tribes. As a result, the peculiarities of the author's poetic language, impregnated with original philosophical metaphors and dialectal vernaculars, induce natural difficulties in reflecting the author's metaphorical imagery and philosophical poetic tonality in these works’ translations into English. At the same time, Yesenin's philosophical understanding of the Russian national character is distinguished by special enlightenment and optimism, as well as the affirmation of the Russian people’s best qualities.
