The article epresents the results of theoretical analysis on the problem of professional reliability of a specialist. The dynamics of interests of domestic researchers in this subject area is described. Various approaches to the isolation of psychological determinants of labor reliability in the context of engineering psychology and ergonomics (from psychophysiological, individual-psychological to personal) are considered. It is noted the importance of taking into account modern requirements for the content of professional activities and the employee of the organization as a whole, in order to further clarify the factors of its reliability at the psychological level. Particular attention is paid to engineering activities as a complex type of technical activity and has become the basis for the development of safety and reliability issues at the initial stage. Based on professional and psychograms of popular engineering professions, the composition of professionally important qualities is determined, which becomes the basis for guidelines for psychodiagnostic research of predictors of professional reliability of future engineers.
