Abstract

The views on science and art of the Russian philosopher, historian Konstantin Dmitrievich Kavelin (1818–1885) are considered. Following Kavelin's reasoning, it is reasonable to recognize the conceptuality of the operation of the hermeneutic circle in intellectual research and art. In a scientific or artistic action, there are symbolically three participants – the author, the text and the reader. The author – a scientist/artist. The text – open new data / artwork. The reader – other scientists or production / public. An analysis of Kavelin's works showed that from a hermeneutic point of view, on the basis of dialogic reflection, the principle of constant «rereading» of the text is important for a scientist and artist in order to comprehend new knowledge and a new worldview.
