The article examines the approach to the interpretation of the category of power proposed by the German political theorist Carl Schmitt. As the basis of power, the researcher defines a relationship in which protection is granted in exchange for subordination. Stressing the human nature of power relations, С. Schmitt considers the internal dialectic of power, consisting in a continuous struggle for indirect influence on the ruler.
