Abstract

The article, based on a wide range of published sources, the works of modern researchers, examines the color, verbal, musical political symbols of the opposing forces of the left and right during the October clashes and pogroms of 1905. The important role of political symbolism is noted, which allowed anti-government and pro-government forces to declare their goals, ensure solidarity and mobilization of mass support. It is concluded that political symbolism, although it acted as a conflict factor, at the same time was not the main reason for the October confrontation, which was due to a deeper complex of contradictions that existed in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century.
