RUMOROLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE RISING AND CULMINATING STAGES OF THE REVOLUTIONARY CRISIS 1905–1907 IN TVER PROVINCE

Abstract

The article, based on unpublished and published sources, examines the role of rumors in the Tver province at the initial stages of the revolutionary crisis of 1905–1907. The process of appearance of rumors, their content, degree of influence, reaction of local authorities and the general population to them is analyzed. The factor of oral informal communication during the October pogroms and clashes is investigated in detail. It is concluded that auditory communication practices were one of the significant factors of socio-political dynamics in the revolutionary era.
