Abstract

The article is devoted to the journey of A.P. Chekhov to the island of Sakhalin in order to study and describe in detail the place of hard labor as an integral part of the life of Tsarist Russia. There is a special perception by Chekhov of his mission as a citizen, ascetic and humanist.
