The paper considers the issues of influence on the individual's consciousness. The difference between speech manipulation and the concepts of lies as a process of complete distortion of reality, and the concept of «propaganda» is indicated, since speech manipulation does not carry ideological pressure. The neuro-linguistic programming contributing to a successful strategy of social interaction in the social sphere of life is analyzed. The authors consider the methods applicable to the study of discourse as an element of a communicative system.
