Abstract

The search for a balanced form of government that will ensure the interests of society and government is an important task of the modern political process. The article examines the research of the German philosopher K. Schmitt, in which he comes to the conclusion that the diversity of political forms of the state is ensured by the difference of two principles: identity and representation. With its help, the people can achieve political unity - the basis of any state. The features of the principles make it possible to understand the mechanisms of interaction between the state and society. K. Schmitt, relying on the history of the study of these mechanisms in social and political thought, makes an attempt to analyze the combination of the principles of identity and representation in a modern legal state.
