The article presents the results of a retrospective analysis of current trends in the development of the world market for peat and peat products. The need for this analysis is due to the problems of the development of the peat industry in Russia and in the world. The problems of the Russian character lie in the discrepancy and inaccuracy of data on marketing information provided by private analytical agencies, and hence forecast estimates in the development of the Russian and world peat markets. The problems of a global nature are: the policy of decarbonization of European economies, the development of "green technologies", the energy and food crises, the sanctions regime of restrictions on the export of goods from Russia. The life cycle of the peat industry is described and analyzed by countries that develop peat deposits and trade peat on the world market. The data and analysis of trading in peat on world trading floors are given. As conclusions, the main trends in the development of the world market for trade in peat and peat products are proposed.
