The article presents the results of a theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of "curiosity" conducted in modern psychological science. A number of interpretations of this concept within the framework of psychological discourse, theoretical models and types of curiosity are considered. It is indicated that at the moment there is no single approach to the emergence of curiosity and its various types, however, in psychology there is a predominance of understanding curiosity as a desire to fill in gaps in knowledge, to obtain new information. It is noted that curiosity is essentially directed at itself and is the foundation for the development of sustained interest in something, while the process of learning the previously unknown is the main goal, and reducing human costs for studying potentially threatening phenomena and situations leads to the formation of morbid curiosity. It is concluded that in modern psychological science there is an urgent need to acquire knowledge about this type of curiosity, as well as to move from theoretical to empirical studies of morbid curiosity based on a domestic sample.
