THE PROBLEM OF HISTORICAL REPRESENTATION
IN A. DANTO’S PHILOSOPHY
Authors: V.P. Potamskaya
Abstract: It reveals that the key concepts of Danto's philosophy of history are «narrative» and «narrative sentences» have two main functions: description and explanation. Turning to the problem of representation, including historical, Danto considers language as being in external relations with reality in its entirety: on the one hand, there is a world, and on the other hand, the language used to speak about it. It is noted that the ways of representing the world are included in the explanation of actions, since people will act differently in conditions that differ insofar as their representations differ. The language of representation is characterized by the intentional context, which has the following feature: the words used in these statements do not correspond to what they are usually associated with in nonintentional discourse.

THE PROBLEM OF UTOPIA IN I. BERLIN’S WRITINGS
Authors: V.P. Potamskaya
Abstract: In the context of discussing the monism inherent in Western philosophy, Berlin turned to the utopian ideal, which took various social and political forms. He noted that all the utopias that compose the Western philosophical heritage share similar elements: the idea of an ideal harmonious static society, attributing to all people an unchanging nature, determined by universal, generally accepted goals that have been fully realized. One of the common assumptions of most Western thinkers, as Berlin points out, is that the true answers are the hidden treasure, and the only problem is to find the way to it and create a society of truth, virtue and happiness. Berlin emphasized that the belief in the possibility of realizing the highest harmony is erroneous, and the concept of a perfect society and an ideal state is not only unrealizable, but also inconsistent, as human values cannot but contradict each other.
